What to do when they say they haven't read the literature - every day sales reps miss sales opportunities when they participate in this scenario at the beginning of a follow - up call: prospect: "i have your information right here but i haven' t taken a look at it yet. " caller: "oh, ok, i' ll give you a call back in a few days. " stop! Let' s analyze the prospect' s words, and see what kind of clue we see: Prospect: "I have your information right here but I haven' t taken a look at it yet. " This is your opportunity to say, "Ok, well as long as you have it there, why don' t you grab it, and let' s go through it together. " This works beautifully for several reasons.


What' s wrong here? - first, you' re not allowing your literature to stand alone to do your job: the selling. Areas you know they have interest in. That' s what happens when literature is sent with the instruction, "Take a look at it and I' ll give you a call to see what you think. " On the other hand, when you request that you examine it together, you' re walking them through the finer points. Also, you get them physically involved. And, you save time by using this technique. When your telephone partner does something in response to your request, he/ she has moved from the passive state of simply talking on the phone, to proactively engaging their senses of sight and touch.


If you meekly say you' ll call back, what are the chances you' ll reach them the very next time you phone? - how much time do you spend on pre - call planning, and writing or typing notes each time you don' t reach a person? One in three, maybe? Five minutes at the least? Time that is gone forever. This time adds up. Time that could be invested in more productive opportunities.


Here are steps to keep in mind as you prepare your follow - up call so you' re ready in case they" haven' t read the literature. " Four Steps. - time that doesn' t need to be lost if you seize the opportunity when it arises. Your preparation for the follow - up call actually takes place as you end your initial prospecting call. Be stingy with your time and literature. You need to be convinced that they indeed are a good prospect according to your criteria, and that they do have interest in what you' re offering. Don' t be of the mindset that the more literature you flood the marketplace with, the better. There' s nothing wrong with saying, "Pat, if I' m reading this conversation correctly, it seems that if you like what you see when I send the specifications, we have a great chance of working together.


This results in disappointment. - is that right? " before your follow - up call, be certain you review your notes so you have their" primary hot button" in mind. You shouldn' t elect to place a follow - up call unless you know the person is interested in some aspect of your offer. If you can' t pinpoint a hot button, your first call wasn' t strong enough. Have in front of you a copy of the material you sent. Don' t be discouraged if you do indeed need to give them a call back, IF you have at least tried to engage them during this conversation.


Be prepared to direct them to a page, or whatever is, a paragraph appropriate to get them talking. - even if they haven' t looked at your literature, take advantage of the situation and get them involved!

Are They Moving Something Rhythmically

All that we are arises with our thoughts. - here' s an idea that may seem a little esoteric, a little woo woo, but put that, a little california aside for a moment and trust that i' m not leading you down the path to woo woo. Everything. Hypothetically, imagine that all things in the universe vibrate. Imagine your prospect vibrating. What is the speed at which you are vibrating? What is the speed at which they are vibrating?


Mesh those two, so you vibrate at their speed. - you can then move the combined vibrations up or down, wherever you want them to be. That' s pacing. This is' leading' . Sure. Is this all in your head? But does that mean it' s not really happening?


Not really. - no. It IS happening in your head at least. And adjust it at will. You are, not actually going, in all likelihood to feel it, so just build a model of it in your mind. A good way to do this is to look at the whole person as the vibration, then pay attention to anything rhythmical they are doing. Are they moving something rhythmically?


Are they swaying? - tapping a pen, shaking their leg? Where is the rhythm located in that person? Here are some ways to make rhythm more accessible. Where do you perceive the rhythm to be centered? Low in their body? High in their body?


Where do you see this rhythm taking place? - if i were to say to you, 'close your eyes and take a deep breath' , your rhythm would probably begin to slow down. My point is that you simply need to be open to seeing( or hearing) this and know that you have the ability to use it in persuasion. Your vibrations probably began to slow because your first assumption was altered state. Your presupposition changed. Notice how your vibration changed with your assumption changing.


You changed. - what direction is it traveling? Now I want you to begin to imagine your vibration increasing and speeding up, moving faster and faster. Some people experience theirs as going around in circles, others feel it goes up and down, or back and forth. Move the energy faster, expand it. Experiment.


How does it feel when you speed up? - in knowing that difference, you can begin to adjust to your affluent prospects in any given situation. What difference do you feel vibrating fast and vibrating slow? By doing this, you gain a deeper rapport in addition to being able to get them to go where you want.
